Raft a rainforest river at nine and walk a cloud forest ridge by four. Nothing on this island is more than half a day away.
The world
The scale is what surprises people. Grade three rapids sit two hours from Colombo. The Knuckles range is two hours from Kandy. Adam’s Peak is climbed through the night and finished before breakfast, and a three-hundred-kilometre trail runs the length of the tea country in stages you can join and leave at will.
Little of it asks you to be an athlete. Most of it asks you to be up before the light, with someone beside you who can read the weather.
Surf Arugam Bay
