Adventure · Hatton, Central Highlands
A guided overnight climb up Sri Lanka's most sacred mountain, 5,500 steps, lit through the night by pilgrims and tea stalls, ending with sunrise from the summit shrine.
The experience
Adam's Peak is sacred to four faiths, and pilgrims of all of them climb together, mostly through the night, to reach the summit shrine for sunrise. This guided climb sets a comfortable pace up the 5,500-step trail, with stops at tea stalls that stay open all night during pilgrimage season.
At the top, if conditions align, climbers witness the mountain's famous shadow, a perfect triangle cast across the clouds at dawn, before the descent back down in daylight.
