The world
Sri Lanka is the size of Ireland and holds the largest animal that has ever lived, the densest leopard population on earth, and a gathering of several hundred elephants — all within a day’s drive of one another. Turtles still come ashore on beaches they were using before the temples were built.
None of it waits for you. Whales run November to April. Leopards show themselves as Yala’s waterholes shrink, February to July. The elephants gather when the dry season bites, August into September. Build around the calendar rather than the map and the island gives you far more.
