Who we are

The Pearl Edition is an independent editorial guide to Sri Lanka, run by The Silly Humans, registered in Singapore. We write the guides, answer your questions and design itineraries. Trips are quoted, sold and operated by our licensed travel partner in Sri Lanka, Traumland Tours.

What we collect

  • Planning a tripYour name, email, phone or WhatsApp, travel dates, number of travellers, the route you built and any notes.
  • Other enquiriesWhat you type into the partner form.
  • Free plannerYour email address and the page you signed up on. We may send the occasional update; reply “unsubscribe”, or write to us, and we remove you.
  • Story commentsThe name you give and your comment, shown publicly. A like stores an anonymous ID, never your name.
  • Chatting with SriThe messages you type, so Sri can reply.
  • Visiting the sitePages viewed, rough location, device and browser, through Google Analytics.

Why we use it

To shape your itinerary, to reply to you, to pass your trip enquiry to our travel partner so they can quote, and to learn which pages are genuinely useful so we can make them better.

We never sell your information, and we never use it for anyone else’s advertising.

Cookies and affiliate links

We use Google Analytics cookies to see which pages are useful, and Google Ads to see whether our adverts lead to enquiries. In the UK and Europe neither is set until you say yes. You choose with the small Cookies button at the bottom of the page, and you can change your cookie choice at any time.

Your browser also remembers a few things on your own device, like the trip you are planning and the stories you liked. That stays on your device unless you send it to us.

Some hotel links go to Agoda or Booking.com. If you book through them we may earn a commission, at no cost to you, and they set their own cookies under their own policies. Full disclosure.

How long we keep it

  • Trips and enquiriesAs long as needed to arrange your trip and meet our accounting duties, then deleted.
  • Planner sign-upsUntil you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.
  • Story commentsUntil you ask us to remove them.
  • AnalyticsKept by Google for 14 months.

Your rights

You can ask to see what we hold about you, to correct it or to delete it, and you can opt out of analytics at any time. Write to hello@thepearledition.asia and we will reply within 30 days.

If you are in the UK or EU, you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
