The experience
Rekawa beach hosts five of the world's seven sea turtle species nesting on its shores, protected by a long-running conservation project staffed by trained local guides. Visits happen after dark, in small groups, with red-filtered lights and strict distance rules to avoid disturbing nesting females.
Watching a turtle that has travelled thousands of kilometres come ashore to lay eggs exactly where she herself hatched is a quietly profound experience, and every visit supports the beach's ongoing protection.
