Culture · Sigiriya, North Central
A guided early-morning ascent of the 5th-century sky palace, timed to reach the summit before the heat and the crowds, 1,500-year-old frescoes, the mirror wall, and views across the plains.
The experience
Sigiriya rises alone from the central plains, a 200-metre granite outcrop crowned with the ruins of King Kashyapa's royal palace. This guided climb starts at first light, before the day's heat and tour groups arrive, taking in the famous frescoes and polished mirror wall along the way.
At the summit, the palace foundations, water gardens and boulder ruins spread out below, with sweeping views across the surrounding jungle to Pidurangala rock in the distance.
