Why investors trust Sri Lanka now

Reform you can verify.

This is not a story built on hype. Every claim on this page is drawn from official, citable sources — the Central Bank, the Board of Investment, the IMF and the U.S. State Department. Here is the foundation underneath the opportunity.

01 · IMF programme on track
A disciplined, monitored recovery
Sri Lanka is inside a 48-month, ~USD 3 billion IMF Extended Fund Facility. Staff reached agreement on the fifth review in October 2025 and described programme performance as strong — external discipline that protects investors.
02 · Debt restructuring complete
Ratings upgraded from the lows
The 2024 sovereign debt restructuring is complete, and both Moody's and Fitch upgraded their ratings afterwards. Sri Lanka is still a recovery-grade credit, not investment grade — but the direction of travel is clearly up.
03 · Capital you can move
Ownership and repatriation guaranteed
100% foreign ownership in most sectors, full repatriation of profits and capital, 28 investment-protection agreements and 38 double-tax treaties. A single-window BOI approval system handles the paperwork.
